WOKINGHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL has announced plans to create a new shared footpath that will link Dinton Pastures with Woodley.
When completed the route, which is aimed at both pedestrians and cyclists, will connect the popular country park with Loddon Bridge.
The council hopes that this will encourage people to avoid the Bader Way.
Ultimately, it is hoped that the cycle route can be extended to provide a direct link to Winnersh Triangle’s business park and railway station.
The path will be constructed with porous and sustainable materials in keeping with the country park.
Cllr Anthony Pollock, executive member for highways and transport, said, “This new footway and cycleway is a welcome addition to the borough and a step in the right direction in providing residents the tools to reduce their car travel, save money and improve their health.
“By reducing car travel we can also help to reduce congestion on Wokingham Borough roads and improve air quality around the area.
“This footway and cycleway is a prime example of the way in which the council is committed to providing its residents with more sustainable travel options.”
The new shared footway and cycleway will be funded by contributions from recent developments in east Woodley and construction is due to start mid-autumn.
