NEW PUBLIC toilets have been opened in Peach Place a part of Wokingham Town Centre’s regeneration.
The two toilets feature unisex cubicles designed to be accessible, with one suitable for wheelchair users. A folding baby change table has been ordered and will be installed soon.
To begin with, the facilities will be open between 7am to 4pm but this is due to be extended to 10pm, from Monday, October 7
“We’ve talked a lot to people about the regeneration over the years, and a desire for public toilets in the town has been a recurring theme,” said Cllr Charlotte Haitham Taylor, executive member for regeneration. “These new toilets are a great new facility for visitors to Wokingham town centre.
“As with the water bottle fountain, which we installed last week, we’ve been able to fund these new facilities as part of the regeneration works with income from the development funding their ongoing maintenance so they can remain free to use.”
Throughout the town centre is also the Local Loo scheme, where toilets are available to the public without them having to purchase from the business.
These facilities can be found in Oslar Coffee, the Brown Bag, the Red Lion and the Broad Street Tavern, as well as in council buildings such as Shute End and local Libraries as well as other locations.
The Local Loo scheme works by the council paying an annual fee to restaurants, cafes and pubs to that the toilets are accessible to all.
“It’s an excellent scheme which has allowed us to continue to provide public toilets for our residents right across the borough such as in Woodley, Wargrave and Twyford,” said Cllr Haitham Taylor.
