A NEW sign warning drivers not to turn right at a busy junction unless it’s safe to do so has been installed.
Now, a new sign has been placed on the traffic lights warning drivers to give way.
A spokesperson for Wokingham Borough Council said: “Even though we enhanced junction markings before Christmas to remind drivers to give way to oncoming traffic, as per The Highway Code, some still aren’t – so we’ve also erected a temporary sign.”
Cllr Imogen Shepherd-DuBey, who had been campaigning for the new sign, was delighted that it has been installed so quickly after our article.
She said: “I am pleased that a new sign has been erected to remind drivers that they need to give way to oncoming traffic at this junction. It may seem rather simple and I know the junction has recently been improved, but nothing else has worked, so far.
“The safety of our residents should always be a priority and problem spots like this do need to be addressed very quickly.
“It is not acceptable to just continue to blame driver error when many innocent people were also being affected.
“Only time will tell if this sign helps, but if it reduces the number of accidents, then it is worthwhile.”
