AROUND 40 new full and part-time jobs will be created when brewery giant Marston’s opens a new pub and restaurant in Wokingham.
The company is investing £3m in The Oakingham Belle on Oak Avenue which is due to open in September.
It is the fourth Marston’s pub in Berkshire, with one in Reading and two in Newbury.
The pub is named after a local Wokingham barmaid inspired by the 18th century poem, “Molly Mogg” who was also known as the Oakingham Belle.
Marston’s says the aim is to make the new hostelry a “true hub for the local community”.
Nigel Whitfield, from Marston’s Pub and Bars explained: “We are really excited to see the Oakingham Belle come to life, we have had a great response locally and hopefully they will enjoy what we have to offer.
“We are aiming for the development to take around six months, so locals will be able to welcome in the early autumn with a relaxing drink or two. We will offer legendary pub classics with modern twists along with expertly crafted cask ales and signature drink selection.
“The Oakingham Belle will bring all the much-loved traditions of a pub, set in delightfully contemporary surroundings. Providing a relaxed yet quality experience with cosy corners and comfy seating, the pub will offer much loved cask ales, freshly cooked food, and a good shelf of malt whiskeys and gins.
The pub is currently recruiting for a variety of different positions.
