MINIONS, music and fun helped launch the new stage at Woodley on Saturday.
The Town Mayor, Cllr Jenny Cheng, cut the ribbon to declare the new facilities open as part of a series of special events at the northern end of the town centre.
Reading Spring Gardens Band performed first, while a Minion was on hand to give out cuddles, as seen on the front page of this week’s The Wokingham Paper.
Members of the Shinfield Shambles morris side performed and the event was brought to an end by a performance from swing/jazz band The Hipcats.
Jacques Lherbier, Woodley’s town centre manager, said that the launch event had gone really well.
“It was a good event, it showed that the new stage works very well with bands of 20 or more musicians,” he said.
“The new area is very open, it’s really lovely and it’s going to be popular with bands.
“Afterwards, the Spring Gardens Band emailed me to say that the acoustics are good and we’ve had more enquiries from bands looking to play. It’s a good stage and a great venue. It’s more spacious and welcoming and a very good family area.”
And Woodley is ready to showcase itself for a special children’s day on Bank Holiday Monday.
Running from 11am to 3pm, the event will include a petting zoo, circus skills workshop and plenty of fun. Entry is free.
