FLORAL tributes have been left by a potential murder scene this morning as police continue their investigation.
Nine Mile Ride is expected to be closed to traffic between Heathlands Road and the Queensmere roundabout for much of today.
The closure is in place after a man died on the road yesterday afternoon, shortly after 2pm.
Although he was injured when he was discovered, emergency services were unable to treat his injuries and he died at the scene.
As a result, Thames Valley Police has launched a murder investigation.
The area where the body was found is outside a mobile home park and opposite a row of houses.
A police cordon is in place and residents of the mobile home park are having to be escorted to and from the premises by officers. Neighbours living in the houses opposite also have full access to their homes.
Although the road closures are clearly marked, some drivers have this morning attempted to drive through it only to have to turn around at Grove Close.
In a statement last night, Detective Superintendent Ian Hunter, Head of the Major Crime unit at Thames Valley Police, said: “We are in the very early stages of enquiries and have now launched a murder investigation.
“I would like to hear from anyone who saw anything unusual or suspicious in Nine Mile Ride near the New Acres Caravan Site and Pineridge Park Homes at around 2pm on Monday, November 5, to contact police. If you have any details which you think may assist our investigation, please come forward and speak to officers.
“We will keep the community updated once further information is available.”
Any one with information is asked to call the 24-hour Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101, quoting the reference 685 5/11.
If you do not want to speak to police call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
