Trains between Wokingham stations and Waterloo have been cancelled this morning until at least 11am due to a signalling problem.
Commuters are being told their tickets can be used between Reading and London Paddington and South Western Railway is getting rail replacement buses ready.
The signal failure between Barnes and Putney has been repaired and lines are reopening but the trains will take some time to get back to normal.
The travel chaos is spilling out on to the roads as well – with Wokingham already suffering from the traffic misery caused by closing the small stretch of Broad Street by the town hall delays are already being reported.
Reading Buses is warning that its services are already running around 17 minutes late.
Delays to lion 4/X4 upto 17 mins due to disruption on South Western Railway. Sorry for any inconvenience.

And it should come as little surprise that stranded commuters are not happy at being left at Wokingham Station – the display boards have been out of action over the past few days.
appalling service. Got to Wokingham train centre only to discover NO service to London and virtually none to Reading? @thetrainline

No information at Wokingham – no tannoy, no screens, just one bloke shouting vague messages then hiding in his little room.

And Google Maps’ traffic function shows Wokingham’s roads as clogged up – the red patches are jams.
