Last week, reader Harry Atkinson was walking through Wokingham when he caught the first fruits of spring.
He said: “I had decided to walk to town. On my way there I passed by Holt Copse, between the Larch Avenue and Holt Lane junctions where Holt Copse is right next to Reading Road.
“I noticed that the blossoms of the outer (“Blackthorn”) bushes (so my wife Mary who has all the Green fingers in the family, tells me !) had started to bloom.
“These bushes are in advance of other bushes in Holt Copse because they are on the South side of the Copse where the Sun is for most of the day, they are on the very edge of the Copse so the Sun does not have to penetrate outer layers of plant vegetation and they are high up off the ground so they catch the Sun early.
“I was able to take some close-ups of the blossoms with the camera I had with me.”
Thanks for sharing Harry, they’re great.
