See how Wokingham Sport’s Isaac Farnworth rated the Royals on Easter Monday. A goalless draw at a sun-kissed Madejski Stadium all but confirmed Reading’s Championship status for another season.
The Royals fans met the full time whistle with scenes of jubilation as their battle against relegation was finally put to an end, with Jose Gomes and his players showing their appreciation to the fans who created a fantastic atmosphere at the Madejski Stadium.
RATINGS:
Emi Martinez: 7- A welcome and rare clean sheet for the Royals keeper. Saw the ball ping off the post twice but made two vital saves to help earn a crucial point.
Andy Yiadom: 8 – Offered a threat out-wide, and linked up really well with Barrow down the left.
Liam Moore: 7 – heart of the resolute Royals back line, a true captain’s performance – and fantastic scenes running over to the 1871 stand to celebrate his side’s almost certain survival from relegation.
Matt Miazga 7 – One crucial challenge of note, to make up for a loose ball – another solid performance who has become a staple in the Reading defence since his arrival.
Tyler Blackett 6 – Industrious down the left, before being replacement by Gunter in the second half. Hopefully the knock he picked up isn’t too serious.
Andy Rinomhota – 8 Made some charging runs forward, and wasn’t afraid to have a pop at goal. His confidence and assured domineer on the pitch is very encouraging.
Nathan Baker – 7 Decent performance from the Chelsea Loanee, who shrugged off a knock to continue to be a creative influence in midfield.
Ovie Ejaria – 9* STAR Player – Really impressive display, offered plenty going forwards, firing narrowly wide across goal in the first half.
Mo Barrow – 6 Had to step up and provide an attacking threat after the early injuries to Nelson Oliveira and Yakou Meite, but should have scored, heading wide from a rebound.
Yakou Meite and Nelson Oliveira – N/A Really difficult start for Royals with their two star forward men leaving the field in first 15 mins due to suspected hamstring and knee injuries respectively.
Subs:
Garath McCleary 7 – his speed and athleticism were a big asset to the side, if he can remain fit over the summer, could be a really important part of next season.
Danny Loader 8 – plenty of shots at goal and with more clinical finishing, could well have earned all three points for his side.
