POLICE have concluded that a reported sexual assault on a teenager in Wokingham town centre earlier this month didn’t happen.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 19, they said that their investigation had led them to that conclusion, and they thanked residents for getting in touch.
The incident was alleged to have taken place in Denton Road, just off Easthampstead Road, around 4pm on Wednesday, June 5.
It was reported that a 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by two men, only for the attack to be called off after a driver intervened.
Thames Valley Police said that they had undertaken a full review of the evidence, including CCTV, and that the evidence gathered indicated that the reported sexual assault did not take place.
Investigation officer Detective Constable Paul Bentley based at Loddon Valley police station, said: “Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the public and local community for coming forward with information to support this investigation.
“We understand that incidents of this nature cause community concern and every detail we receive, with any witness appeal, helps us to establish what has happened and provides vital information to help us to fully investigate reports.
“Incidents of this nature are treated extremely seriously and will be thoroughly investigated, we would always encourage people with any information to come forward to assist with this process.”
