Thames Valley Police have cordoned off an area by the River Thames and the Kennet and Avon Canal this morning after a body was found in the water.
Around 5.45am this morning, police closed the bus lane near the Prudential buildings on Kings Road in Reading to attend to the incident.
They also shut the towpath next to the Kennet and Avon canal after being called to reports of someone being in the water.
It is not yet known why police are also present at the Wokingham Waterside Centre at Thames Valley Park, but a black tent has been erected and a forensic officer is on site.
It is believed to be linked to the closure.
Thames Valley Police said they had been called to the towpath after receiving reports of a body in the water and that the person was sadly deceased.
In a statement, they said: “We were called at around 5.45am this morning to reports of a person in the water.
“Officers attended the scene and entered the water and found that the person was sadly deceased.
“At this stage the death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“A scene watch is in place whilst enquiries are ongoing.”
