Police have released more information relating to an man being injured by a moped rider in a hit and run incident that took place in Asda’s car park on Sunday, August 13. Cars were also damaged as the driver made his getaway.
As we exclusively revealed in this week’s Wokingham Paper, Asda has started the process of installing CCTV following a number of bike thefts in the store’s car park and the surrounding area, which includes Chalfont Way’s shopping precinct opposite the supermarket’s petrol station.
Last week, Thames Valley Police appealed for witnesses following thefts in July and August.
Now they are appealing for witnesses following Sunday’s incident, which took place around 12.30pm.
The police said that two pedestrians were injured after a moped was driven at them.
The incident started when a man saw a man and woman arrive on a moped in the car park of the Asda supermarket in Rushey Way. He believed they were suspicious due to black tape having been placed over the moped’s number plate.
As he approached them, the male moped rider rode away and collided with two other members of the public, a 57-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman.
The man sustained a shoulder injury which required hospital treatment at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, while the woman’s injuries were minor and treated at the scene.
The offender then rode the moped into two vehicles, damaging them, while the woman who was with the offender ran away.
