PARKING charges at a Bracknell car park have been lowered following huge outcry from shoppers.
The Bracknell Regeneration Partnership announced on August 22 that Princess Square car park would become a short stay car park following the opening of the new Lexicon shopping centre.
The original prices started at 90p for 30 minutes, but rose sharply to £10 for longer visits of over three hours.
The announcement was met with huge criticism by shoppers, who took to social media to voice their outrage at the charges.
However, the company has since had a change of heart and new, lower charges will come into effect at the car park on Monday, September 18.
Princess Square will remain a short stay car park, but the length of time before the higher charges come into effect has been extended to up to four hours.
The new charges are as follows:
- Up to Thirty minutes – 90p
- 30 minutes to 1 hour – £1.20
- 1 to 2 hours – £2.00
- 2-3 hours – £3.00
- 3-4 hours – £5.00
- 4 hours to all day – £20.00
Rob Morris, general manager at The Lexicon Bracknell says: “The intention remains to offer shoppers visiting The Lexicon, for an hour or two, a cost effective parking tariff.
“However, we have listened to our customers’ feedback and it has become clear that extending the short stay period from 2 to 4 hours would be well received and we are therefore incorporating new additional charges in-line with customer sentiment.”
