FEWER shoppers hit Reading high street last month as the town saw one of the largest drops in footfall across the country.
The latest report from the Centre for Cities revealed Reading saw a 23% decrease in footfall in September compared to August.
It had the fourth greatest drop in the UK, closely following Southend (-26%), Bournemouth (-29%) and Blackpool (-37%).
The news comes after the town saw a 41% increase in the number of visitors in August – the largest rise in the country.
However, this is thought to be due to Reading Festival.
According to the Centre for Cities, overall footfall in the town centre is sitting at 72% of the pre-pandemic average.
