A THAMES VALLEY law firm is offering advice to anybody facing redundancy.
Andrea Corr, senior solicitor at Blandy & Blandy, has shared her thoughts on how to handle situation successfully.
“Redundancy commonly arises in a situation where an employer has a reduced need for a particular kind of work or at a particular location,” she said.
“It can range from an entire closure of the workplace to restructuring or reorganisation.”
According to Ms Corr, anybody who has been placed “at risk” of redundancy should stay alert as it could be the beginning of the end.
And while there is no template process for redundancies, staff should make sure their dismissal is reasonable.
“[This] may vary widely between small family employers and large corporate organisations,” she said. “It could include a matrix of scoring or assessment across groups of affected staff.
“You may be entitled to be considered for a suitable alternative role if one exists, but there is no legal requirement for your employer to create one.”
