READING RAIDERS recorded the biggest win in their history with an 86-4 demolition of Southampton Spitfires.
Raiders ran in 15 tries during the rout at Berkshire County Sports Club with Ben Mitchell, Lewis Chick and Luke Schofield all scoring hat-tricks.
The victory all but confirms Reading’s spot in the top two of the West of England League’s Pool B.
Southampton arrived with just 13 players and were made to pay as Reading scored with their opening two attacks with Kerry O’Sullivan and Brad Walters crossing the whitewash.
John Boucher was the next to score before winger Mitchell and full-back Schofield got in on the act.
Lewis Chick, Schofield and Mitchell tries took the score to 48-0 by half-time, allowing some brief respite for Southampton.
But the demolition continued after the restart with Sam Voight, Schofield, Mitchell, Chick (2), Si Kalafusz and O’Sullivan all scoring to clinch the huge victory.
“Leading up to the match, we focused on getting back on track after our loss to Oxford,” said head coach Karl Temata.
“It was very pleasing to see the points we worked on in training pay off.”
Raiders travel to face Portsmouth Seahawks on Saturday (2.30pm) with a win guaranteeing progression into the Super Six stage.
