Reading have sacked manager Jose Gomes with immediate effect after they dropped into the relegation zone last weekend.
A run of five defeats in six Championship games saw the Royals fall into the drop zone into 22nd place heading into the international break.
The Portuguese manager joined Reading in December 2018 following the departure of Paul Clement. He helped the Royals to Championship survival after a surge in form towards the end of the season which helped them to secure their league status on the penultimate day of the season.
A disappointing start to the season has resulted in the departure of Gomes just 11 games into the Championship season, with the Royals on just eight points having only won two league games.
Gomes leaves Reading with a record of nine wins, 14 draws and 15 losses in 38 games in charge.
The club are expected to announce a replacement before their next league fixture against Preston North End on Saturday, October 19.
