A WOKINGHAM-based football club will play host to one of the biggest names in world football this summer, as 13-time European champions Real Madrid visit Ashridge FC.
Real Madrid Academy will be running one of their Soccer Clinics at Ashridge Park FC’s home ground at St Crispin’s school this August.
This is the second time that Ashridge Park have hosted the event, having welcomed the visit of the football super club last year.
Holding the accolade of being one of the most recognisable sporting names around the globe, Real Madrid has produced – and hosted – some of the most famous names in football, including Welsh international Gareth Bale.
Its team will be providing high level coaching for some of Wokingham’s young footballers during the summer holidays.
The Spanish side started hosting Soccer Clinics in 2018, with the aim of delivering what it says will be the highest standard of football tuition to youngsters across the UK.
All coaches are UEFA-qualified, and sessions utilise the latest technology and player analysis to provide players with detailed feedback on their performance.
And the youngsters who take part will receive a full Real Madrid kit, along with a souvenir drinks bottle, Adidas football and kit bag.
To help teach the young participants – who will all be aged between seven and 16 – about a footballer’s lifestyle, Real Madrid will also be providing lunches that have been nutritiously balanced and healthy.
The training camp also has a serious side. One player from each site is selected by the Real Madrid Academy to go forward to a regional camp, where players will be selected to play in a one-off match at the famous Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home of the Spanish giants.
“We really wanted to ensure that each player got something positive out of the event last year, and we were not disappointed,” said Ashridge Park FC chair Ady Dolan.
“Each session can be tailored to every player’s needs, regardless of age or ability. The coaches are outstanding, and from the first minute, the ethos of Real Madrid – respect, determination and professionalism – is instilled into the children.
“The feedback from parents was overwhelmingly positive, and I’m sure that this year’s participants will get a great deal from the week.”
