IT’S WOKINGHAM as you’ve never seen it before: as work on the regeneration of Elms Field, a resident has taken some astonishing drone footage showing the extent of the works.
Published on YouTube today – Monday, February 4 – the video shows the shape of the park complete with link road around the other side, as well as the exo-skeleton of the new boutique cinema, Aldi supermarket and Premier Inn.
There is also a blank canvas where new homes will eventually sit.
Trees from Elms Field are carefully fenced off to ensure that they are not damaged during the regeneration works.
Some of the trees that were felled this time last year are being stored safely and the tree trunks reused as part of the new park.
And, when the new Elms Field is finished there will be new trees planted with an emphasis on improving bio-diversity across the site. The council said that its plans incorporate a range of initiatives such as bird and bat nesting boxes, hedgehog boxes and planting specially selected for improved bird feeding and to support invertebrates.
Work on Elms Field is expected to complete in phases from the end of 2019 through to 2020.
