RESIDENTS face several days of disruption from today as work to complete a new relief road in Shinfield continues. And, as a result of the works, a busy pub will close its doors at 3pm rather than 11pm.
A section of the A327 Shinfield Road between Cutbush Lane and the Black Boy roundabout will be closed to traffic from Monday, April 3 to Friday, April 7 to enable road builders Hochtief access to the area.
During the closures, which run from 9pm to 6am, the contractors will resurface the carriageway, paint new lines and, they promise, finish this stretch of highway in the Shinfield Eastern Relief Road project.
Shinfield Road northbound only (towards Reading) is due to be shut overnight from Monday to Wednesday.
During this time, a diversion will be in place, via A327 Hollow Lane, B3349 Hyde End Road, Basingstoke Road, A33 Basingstoke Road and B3270 Whitley Wood Lane.
On Thursday, April 6 and Friday, April 7 Shinfield Road is due to be closed in both directions. The work starts from 9pm on Thursday and from midnight on Friday to allow the Black Boy to remain open. Work ends at 6am.
This diversion is via A327 Hollow Lane, B3349 Hyde End Road, Basingstoke Road, A33 Basingstoke Road and B3270 Whitley Wood Lane or this route reversed.
During these closures Cutbush Lane can be reached via the above diversion and then from the A327 Hollow Lane into Wychelm Road, Wheatfields Road, Seymour Avenue and Oatlands Road.
Pedestrians, cyclists and the emergency services will still have access during the closures.
There will be more overnight works at the weekend.
On Saturday, April 8 and Sunday, April 9, there will be kerbside works – although there will be a lane closure, the roads will remain open.
The closure will be Lane End farm gyratory and temporary two-way lights on Arborfield Road.
The Black Boy posted a note on its website: “From 3rd to 6th April we will be calling last orders at 3pm, as there will be a road closure in place restricting access to the pub at 5.30pm.
“This is out of our hands as the road works/closure are pretty serious and taking place right outside the pub on those evenings.”
