Motorists travelling into Wokingham town centre from Monday will need to take extra care with their routes as two sets of roadworks will affect journeys around town.
South East Water are planning a week’s worth of work in Shute End starting on Monday and will have temporary lights on the road.
This will affect its junction with Broad Street and Rectory Road.
But it’s not the only works. From Monday work begins on part of the new Peach Place development that backs on to Rose Street.
As a result, traffic will not be allowed to turn from Rose Street into Broad Street while the work takes place – and it’s expected to take eight weeks to work through.
A spokesperson for Wokingham Borough Council said: “From Monday, February 4, a section of the southbound carriageway of Rose Street and pavement closest to Peach Place will be temporarily closed.
“During this period, there will be no vehicular access from Rose Street into Broad Street. Access from Broad Street into Rose Street will remain unaffected and existing bus routes will run as usual from Broad Street.
“Rose Street residents parking bays and access to the Silk Court apartments will be maintained at all times.
“The diversion for traffic from Rose Street will be via Wiltshire Road, Peach Street and Broad Street. This is expected to be in place for eight weeks.
“During this time our contractor will be laying new paving, kerbs and associated works for the Peach Place development, in readiness for the opening of new shops on Rose Street and access to the new public-square.”
The only business currently announced for Peach Place is the new gin bar The Leafy Elephant, which is hoped to open towards the end of March.
