THE stage is being set for the final Wokingham May Fayre in its present incarnation.
Monday’s day of fun will be the last before Elms Field is closed for the Wokingham Regneration – and organisers are promising a brilliant event for all the family.
Wokingham Lions May Fayre chairman Andy Slay said: “This will be the last May Fayre on the Elms Fields in their current format, but not the end of the event and I am looking forward to the challenges of the next few years.
“Although the new Elms Field, when completed, will be smaller than the current arrangements, the Borough Council have consulted with us on a number of occasions and we believe that it will be better suited to holding these events in the longer term.”
As ever, Wokingham town centre will be turned into a fairground and a playground with hundreds of stalls, activities and events to look forward to through the day, which runs from 10am to 5pm.
Denmark Street and Market Place will be host to lots of charity stalls raising thousands for good causes.
There will be live entertainment on the main stage by the town hall, with acts including the Coombes CE Primary School, Starmaker Theatre Company and Steppin Out Stars of Tomorrow.
Elms Field will be home to a fairground with plenty of activities and rides to enjoy including Basil and Crew’s animal farm, ferret racing, a flight simulator, bouncy castles and a tea tent.
There will also be workshops and dancing displays.
And, of course, Erfstadt Court will be home to the Punch and Judy and magic shows, while Circus Scene will be bringing entertainment to the streets.
Oh, and The Wokingham Paper will have a stall for our Bonny Baby contest.
Mr Slay added: “We are all looking forward to the big day now, which has become a regular part of the Wokingham calendar since our first May Fayre in 1995.
“As always a big thank you to the May Fayre committee who have put in enormous amounts of work over the past few months, and of course to the Town Council without whose support the May Fayre could not happen.
“There is still room for a few more stalls on the Elms Field, so please get in touch with us at [email protected] if you would like to get involved in this great day.”
