SCARECROWS can be spotted across Binfield next week as villagers raise money for charity with their straw sculptures.
The Binfield Scarecrow Trail will run from Monday, October 28 to Sunday, November 3. Those wishing to check-out the variety of entries can follow a detailed map that reveals their locations.
Maps are purchasable from Binfield Village Stores, Crema Coffee Shop and The Foxes’ Den Community Café, with all proceeds going towards Binfield ARC Project: All Saints’ Repair & Care, who maintain the village church. They cost £2 each.
Co-organise Vicky Lunn said: “Regardless of whether you’re religious or not, the church is a massive part of village life here, and that’s why we need to support it.”
To ensure a sighting of every scarecrow on the map, organisers suggest allocating just over two hours. However, there is no requirement to do the whole thing, and visitors can pick and choose which spots to visit for themselves.
Mrs Lunn: “It’s a fantastic event, and people take their designs very seriously.
“There are a range of quirky designs, but for many people, they believe it’s only a scarecrow if it contains straw.”
“It’s such a lovely event for all the family, throughout the week you just here a stampede of children running through the village and cheering when they find the next one on their map.
“We make sure to run the event during half term as it’s fantastic to get the kids outdoors and exploring.”
Now in their fourth year, there are 55 scarecrows to spot across the village. Visitors are encouraged to cross off the number of scarecrows they find on their maps. Regardless of how many you spot, if you return your map at the end, you’ll receive a little prize.
