TO CELEBRATE the launch of a new film about one of the greatest ever comedy duos, a Winnersh cinema will be screening a special double bill this Sunday.
Stan and Ollie is a biopic starring Steve Coogan and John C Reilly as Laurel and Hardy on their farewell tour of Britain back in the 1950s. It opens on Friday, January 11, but to get people in the mood – and to showcase why Laurel and Hardy were so popular – the Showcase Cinema will be screening Way Out West and Towed In A Hole.
And these are not the scratchy prints that you may have distant memories of seeing on BBC Two back in the 1980s: these are special restored prints showcasing the boys in high definition.
Organisers are hoping that families will come along to enjoy seeing Laurel and Hardy on the big screen with a packed audience, the way they were made to be seen.
Locally-born comic Ricky Gervais has said: “Laurel and Hardy are easily my biggest influence”.
The double bill will be screened from 2pm.
Tickets cost £11, £7.30 for children, £8.30 for concessions or £30 for families plus an online admin charge.
They can be booked in advance from www.showcasecinemas.co.uk
