Commuters using the South Western Railway line between Wokingham and Reading this morning are being warned that trains are delayed again due to signalling problems – the third time this week.
Due to a track circuit failure between Reading and Wokingham trains have to run at reduced speed on the Ascot bound line.
Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 10 minutes or revised. Disruption is expected until 10am.
On Tuesday, services were cancelled or delayed during morning rush hour due to a signal failure between Barnes and Putney, while there were also delays last night around Winnersh.
Today’s problem is affecting the track circuits which help the signaller manage the position of trains on the network. As a result, trains have to stop and the driver then has to seek verbal permission from the signaller to continue.
Network Rail have deployed engineers to site to investigate the fault, when they update our control room we will be able provide more details. South Western Railway said that they are currently awaiting the arrival of a specialist engineering train at the site before they can fully re-open the line.
Until then it means there will be disruption to services: cancellations, delays or revisions.
