THE hills are alive with the sound of music – and the clink of donations.
That’s the aim of a fun film event in aid of Wokingham’s Link Visiting Scheme.
The charity, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, will benefit from a special Singalong Sound of Music at the Whitty Theatre.
Organiser, Jac Jones, is hoping people dress up as singing nuns, Julie Andrews lookalikes and even German paratroopers.
Money raised from the event on Sunday, June 10, will go to the Link.
“As I approached my 40th birthday last year I thought I would like to do something worthwhile to celebrate,” explained Jac.
“I came up with the idea of raising £40,000 across 40 charities which I chose because they meant something to me or to someone I love.
“I have been volunteering with Link for the last few years and it seemed fitting to support a local charity tackling the epidemic of loneliness and promoting friendship in our community.”
Jac, from Wokingham, launched her charity marathon last year with a black tie dinner for 350 people.
“My plan was to organise fundraising events that my friends and family could enjoy and raise money and awareness of the charities at the same time,” she added.
“With a combination of coffee mornings, sponsored events, a massage marathon, a fireworks party, a Eurovision sweepstake and lots of support from my friends, we have raised over £39,000 with five events yet to take place.
“The Singalonga Sound of Music is the last major event. There will be food, drink, time for a practice, a fancy dress competition and a guarantee of laughing your lederhosen off.”
Doors open at 4pm with plenty happening before the film starts at 6pm. To buy tickets in advance, go to: www.ticketsource.co.uk/event/221173
