A NEW school to be built in the Matthewsgreen Farm development will include sprinklers.
The condition comes in the wake of The Wokingham Paper’s revelation that The Emmbrook School’s new maths block was installed without the safety measures.
It is part of planning consent granted on Wednesday, February 14 at a meeting of Wokingham Borough Council’s planning committee. The Wokingham Paper was the only media present for the meeting.
The site will include a nursery and a community centre.
The original decision on the project was due to be made at last December’s planning meeting but had been deferred to allow for plans to be revised to cover the shortfall in a soft play area. The application has been amended to allow the school, if it expands in pupil numbers, to install an all-weather pitch. This will be 1,920m2.
It is intended that the new school will be delivered in tandem with other community facilities on the site, and the planning documents reveal that Wokingham Borough Council is currently negotiating with a potential operator for this. [Updated – Kings Church in Wokingham is to be the operator].
The scheme includes parking for both school and community centre.
