Villagers in Twyford and the surrounding area are being given the opportunity to enjoy both the Royal wedding and the FA Cup final live on a giant screen as part of a bumper day of fun in St Mary’s Church on Saturday, May 19.
As well as the main events there will be a children’s disco, plus entertainment from Bonnie the Bubble Lady and the Reading Accordion Group and a performance by Twyford’s own prize winning contemporary a capella vocal group, Avenue.
Doors open at 11am and the screen becomes comes live at midday to watch coverage of the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from St George’s Chapel, Windsor.
This will be followed by a live screening of the FA Cup final from Wembley to make it a day that will stay in the memory for a long time to come.
Those in attendance will marvel at Bonnie the Bubble lady who will give them the chance to stand inside a giant soap bubble and hold ‘smoke’ bubbles in their hands. There will be volcano bubbles, bouncing bubbles, bubbles inside bubbles, rainbow bubbles and more.
Reading Accordion Group will play familiar regal music, and children can dance around to their very own disco music.
Organiser Paul Bromley said: “Throughout the day food and drink will be available, including bubbly to celebrate the wedding, Pimms to sip, local Bingham’s Twyford tipple beer and of course tea and coffee.
“There will also be cakes and scones.
“Twyford Scout Group will be cooking on their barbecue, so no one will go hungry.”
The Scouts are raising funds to send some members of their group to the 24th World Jamboree in West Virginia, US and for volunteers to return to Uganda where they will continue to support four needy schools.
Entertainment includes competitions and prizes for all, and ladies are invited to wear their best ‘wedding’ hat and boys and girls to fashion a crown or tiara.
During the afternoon there will be a chance to ‘hunt for clues’ in the churchyard and win a prize.
The day will end with the Football Association Cup final from Wembley Stadium where two teams will battle for the right to receive the cup, which is being presented by Prince William.
Mr. Bromley added: “We invite everyone to come along and enjoy a very special afternoon out with the family. Tickets are on sale at £4 for adults and £1 for children.
“They are available from Floor Store in Twyford or from the church office on 0118 934 4792. All profits will go to Christian Aid and we want to give particular thanks to Ballards estate agents in Twyford for their support.
”It will be a truly memorable day and everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the occasion.”
