BIG GAME hunters enjoyed the chance to win a bottle, bag a teddy bear and try the lucky dip thanks to one of the first winter fayres of the season.
St Paul’s Church in Reading Road opened its doors to hundreds of visitors on Saturday for its safari themed fun day.
Visitors could try their hand at a number of fun games including a bagatelle, a raffle and a clergy-run bottle tombola. There were also a range of stalls offering plants, bric-a-brac and books.
Church members made lunches and refreshments in the kitchen, and all participants wore fancy dress. One youngster even dyed her hair in zebra stripes.
The event was opened by the town mayor, Cllr Peter Lucey, and raised just over £1,930.
Liz Gallagher, who helped organise the event, said: “I thought it went really well and there was a brilliant atmosphere. Everyone seemed to have fun which is the best we could ask for.”
