SUNDAY lunch at a Hurst pub was steam powered thanks to a special display.
A group of steam powered vehicles visited The Elephant and Castle in Lodge Road at the weekend and there were no shortage of admirers for the vintage machines.
They belong to Geoff Winkfield and his family.
“They’re over 100 years old now – and there’s always something to maintain with them,” he said of the machines which looked as clean as a whistle.
“We normally get a very good reception [when we showcase them]. People are pleased to see us.”
The Winkfields added that they are looking forward to showcasing their machines at this year’s Wokingham Winter Carnival.
And the visit is one of a number of special events being organised by new landlord Anthony “Beany” Rudd. There’s whiskey tasting, shire horse and cart rides and open mic nights all on the menu. Oggy and the House Band performed on Saturday, October 13.
“We’re pleased with the way things are going, we’re getting good feedback from customers and we’re nice and busy.
“We’re a community pub, putting events on for the community.”
