Stephen Quinn has become Reading’s second signing of the summer, joining from Hull City on a free transfer.
The Republic of Ireland international was offered a new deal by Steve Bruce’s recently relegated side while there was also reported interest from both Cardiff City and Premier League Norwich City, but Royals have won the race for his signature by offering a three year deal with the option of a fourth.
The midfielder is believed to have opted for Reading having been handed a longer term deal than the one at Hull as he looks to re-establish himself as a first team regular following a couple of seasons as a squad player.
Quinn, 29, helps bolster a midfield which has been weakened by the departures of Danny Guthrie and Nathaniel Chalobah plus the impending departure of Jem Karacan.
Manager Steve Clarke said: “When I knew he was available, I targeted him quite early in the summer. His performances are always of a good standard and he is a talented, industrious, aggressive midfielder who can be influential in games.
“Obviously he has just experienced relegation at Hull City and is desperate to get back to the Premier League as quickly as possible, which can only be good for us.
“Stephen is also a good character who will have a positive effect in our changing room and, just as importantly, on our younger players here at Reading FC.”
And Quinn becomes the second signing made by Clarke this week following the arrival of Orlando Sa on Monday.
