The Lovely Debbie McGee waltzed her way to the top of Strictly Come Dancing’s leaderboard in the second week of the competition – and her dancing with partner Giovanni Pernice received much praise from the judges.
On Saturday night, the second week of the contest, the BBC Radio Berkshire presenter danced a Viennese waltz to Billy Joel’s She’s Always A Woman. She received an impressive 34 points from the judging panel.
And on Sunday night, in the results show, Debbie and Giovanni were the first couple to be declared through to week three’s movie week.
When she found out the news, the beaming Debbie mouthed to the TV cameras “Thank you everybody”.
And afterwards, Debbie said that she was “stunned” and “delirious” to be voted through to the next round.
“You can’t take anything for granted,” she said.
Afterwards, show host Claudia Winkleman interviewed the judges to ask for their opinion on week two.
Darcy Bushell was full of praise for Debbie’s posture and dancing.
Everything, she said: “Oozes grace”.
And at the end of the show, Debbie showed, once again, why she is called lovely: she rushed up to the celebrity who lost the dance off to show her support and concern.
There’s no rest for Debbie. Fresh from recording Strictly last night, she was back presenting her BBC Radio Berkshire show and will now be in training for next Saturday’s dance routine.
