WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook made a winning return to Lowther Road on a historic night for the club which saw them play in the newly developed ground under floodlights.
Fitted with a new seating area, floodlights and a hard-standing area, Lowther Road played host to football under floodlights for the first time as the Sumas defeated AFC Aldermaston 2-0.
183 fans turned out to see the Sumas make their long anticipated return to their Emmbrook home and were treated to three points on the opening night of the season.
It was a closely contested opening to the game with the Sumas coming close to breaking the deadlock on a couple of occasions as Rushforth twice went close before Bateman squandered a good chance.
Aldermaston then had their first opportunity of the match as they hit Wokingham on the counter but missed the target before forcing Woodward into making a fine save.
The hosts took the lead on the stroke of half-time as Edwards fired a shot from 20 yards into the corner to beat the helpless goalkeeper.
In an end-to-end start to the second half, the Sumas took advantage and doubled their lead as Rushforth battled to win the ball back deep inside the Aldermaston half and released the ball to White who finished his chance clinically.
The Sumas battled hard to earn their clean sheet in the second-half as Aldermaston pressed hard to find a way back into the match. Kontogiannis put in a fantastic last ditch tackle on the Aldermaston striker before Will Day cleared one off the line as they held on for a well deserved 2-0 triumph.
