BEN HENDERSON scored two tries as Rams picked up another bonus-point win after a fine first-half display against Tonbridge.
A penalty try as well as Henderson’s brace and a James Page score gave the hosts a 26-13 lead at the break at Old Bath Road and Jak Rossiter sealed the hard-fought 33-18 win late on.
“We never quite got complete control of the game against a very good Tonbridge side,” admitted Rams head coach Seb Reynolds.
“They came with a game plan to move the ball around and challenge our defence and in fairness they did that at times.
“But all in all, the lads did really well to score five tries and earn a bonus point victory, while never really gaining a genuine foothold in the game.”
Tonbridge began the game well, earning two penalties in the opening five minutes and kicking both through the posts.
But Rams responded well, opting to push for a try and they did just that when Henderson drove over with Alex Seers’ conversion putting the hosts 7-6 in front.
A yellow card for the visitors gave Reynolds’ men an additional boost and they made the extra man count with a penalty try before Henderson’s second try of the game after collecting the ball at the back of a scrum.
But the Juddians bounced back against the run of play to reduce the arrears before the break with winger Hugo Watson crossing the whitewash.
However, there was still time for another first-half try as Page took the ball over the line.
With Tom Vooght sent to the sin bin, Tonbridge battled back after the restart to close the gap to just eight points with another try, scored by Rob White.
But back up to their full complement, Rams pulled clear again when Rossiter flew over in the corner to seal the win.
League leaders Rams are four points clear of the chasing pack ahead of a trip to struggling Old Redcliffians on Saturday (3pm).
