The Wokingham Town Mayor was one of the first bikers on the Reading Toy Run this year.
The annual event attracted more than 1,500 bikes as the made their way from Shinfield to High Close School in Wokingham’s town centre. And near the head of the pack was Cllr Philip Mirfin, the town mayor who was excited to be part of the Toy Run. You can see him at around 1minute in our video above.
Fancy dress was the order of the day, with many Father Christmasses, Minions and superheroes riding specially decorated motorbikes.
This year is the event’s 30th anniversary and comes after last year’s run, which entered the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s largest Toy Run with 1,735 bikers.
According to a tweet from the Toy Run, this year there were 1,565 bikes taking part with 476 pillions, making a total of 2,041 people descending on the Barnardo’s school with Christmas gifts.
The ride is a major attraction in the run-up to Wokingham’s Christmas and thousands gathered to watch the procession as it passed from Foster Wheeler’s HQ to the Showcase Cinema roundabout, then down Reading Road, through Winnersh and into Wokingham itself.
We have taken hundreds of photographs and later this week we’ll add a special souvenir gallery to the website and print a selection of the best in Friday’s Wokingham Paper.
We have also videoed the bikes taking part. This first video shows the first three minutes of the Toy Run.
