A POLICE officer based at Three Mile Cross is set to walk the entire length of the country for charity.
PC Tyrone Powell, who is based on the Armed Response Vehicle team at Three Mile Cross police station, is planning to walk from Land’s End, in Cornwall, to John O’Groats, in Scotland, in aid of mental health charity MIND.
PC Powell expects to walk between 25 and 30 miles each day, covering approximately 1,000 miles in total.
The officer, who will completing the challenge while on annual leave, is hoping to complete the walk within 40 days.
PC Powell will be trekking unsupported, carrying the contents of a rucksack and sleeping in a tent each night.
The challenge is due to start on April 27 next year.
PC Powell said: “Mental ill-health is something that can affect anybody at any time; especially within the emergency services, where we can be exposed to horrendous experiences which can stay locked up within the confines of our minds and seldom shared or spoken about with others.
“By undertaking this walk, I’m hoping to help to tackle the stigma around mental health issues and promote the service that Mind offers to our extended emergency service family, as well as the service they provide to the public.”
