TICKETS are selling fast for a special fundraising jazz concert coming to Wokingham later this month.
The evening of music with world-renowned musician Art Themen and his friends will help the work of Wokingham In Need (WIN) and is being organised by Wokingham Lions.
It will take place at The Whitty Theatre in Luckley Road on Saturday, October 27. Doors will open from 6.30pm, with the music from 7.30pm. Tickets will cost £15.
Sue Jackson, the founder of WIN, is excited about the concert, which will really help the charity’s work for people across the borough.
She said: “All proceeds raised from this event will go to Wokingham in Need, for distribution to worthy causes, including Invictus. WIN was founded in September 2016 to help support the homeless, vulnerable and needy people in our borough.
“Art Themen is a great talent, whose original style will appeal to jazz fans of all genres.
“He also is a big supporter of philanthropic causes, and we are so pleased that he will be once again be performing for the Wokingham community.”
Art was involved in the traditional jazz scene in the late 1950s, as well as the early London blues scene. Fronting Stan Tracey’s quartet for 20 years, he has toured the world, and has played with virtually everyone on the UK jazz scene.
He has performed with American legends including Philly Joe Jones, George Coleman, Bud Shank and Scott Hamilton.
Outside the jazz scene, he has appeared with such diverse artists as Mick Jagger, George Harrison, Rod Stewart, Chuck Berry and Bing Crosby.
