MODEL railway enthusiasts enjoyed a journey round the world in miniature thanks to a local club.
The Loddon Vale Model Railway Club exhibition held at Swallowfield Village Hall on Saturday, May 6, saw members and fellow clubs showcase layouts they had built themselves, including recreations of Toyko and Orestone Quay.
All ages were very welcome and young model railway fans were able to have a go at driving Thomas The Tank Engine around a special junior track.
One of the exhibits was a model railway built into an old television.
Barry Portsmouth, who created the miniature display, said: “The display is 21 years old, my father-in-law wanted to do something for an exhibition and he’d seen people build displays in suitcases.
“It took a while for us to get all the bits and bobs, but it’s quite easy to transport. I can pick it up and put it in the back of the car.”
And the club was pleased with how successful the show had been.
Gerry Norris, Loddon Vale’s exhibition manager, said: “We’re really pleased with the turnout, we’ve got some great displays.
“The show intrigues youngsters, they love seeing the layouts.
“Our next show is on September 30 at Earley St Peter’s Church and we’ll be back in Swallowfield next May.”
The club meets on Tuesdays at Grazeley Village Hall in Mereoak Lane and welcomes new members.
