THERE’s a festive football match, a sparkling street fayre, coffee morning with Father Christmas and even a partridge in a pear tree, writes James Hastings.
In case there was any doubt, it really is beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Twyford.
It all kicks off with the fabulous Christmas lights switch-on at Bell Corner on Sunday November 26 at 5.30pm when the village is lit up in all its seasonal sparkle.
Visitors can enjoy carol singing, drinks and nibbles and a display of festive drawings by Polehampton Junior school children.
The tree has been donated this year by Treetop Landscapes and is powered by Parkers Estate Agents.
Switching on the lights is David Brownlow from The David Brownlow Charitable Foundation who will be joined by the winner of Junior Twyford’s Got Talent.
Gordon Storey, one of the organisers of the village festivities said this year’s event was gearing up to being the best ever.
“There is so much going on throughout the village and it gets off to the best start possible with the ever popular lights switch-on,” he said.
“It really feels like Christmas when the lights go on brightening up the dark nights.
“A lot of people work really hard behind the scenes to get things ready and they deserve a big thank you. It’s wonderful how the people of Twyford turn out to support all the celebrations and events.”
And that elusive partridge in a pear tree might just make an appearance in a question at the Quiz and Chips at the Duke of Wellington on Monday, December 4, which will raise money for Daisy’s Dream, or a Christmas Quiz for children at St Thomas More Church the following day.
