Plans have been announced for Wokingham borough residents to show their respects to the people killed in the Orlando attacks last weekend.
At 3pm on Sunday, people will gather in Market Place to tie ribbons between two trees to remember the 49 people killed and 53 people injured when a gunman opened fire in a gay club.
The incident was the deadliest mass shooting in recent US history and ended when the gunman, Omar Mateen, was killed himself.
Everyone is invited to Sunday’s vigil, which organisers says is not representing any group of organisations, but instead “just ordinary people in Wokingham, who want to demonstrate their solidarity”.
In the information about their event posted on its Facebook page, they add: “A week on from the attack in Orlando we stand to remember all those in the global LGBT community threatened, oppressed and killed due to hate crimes, persecution and violence.
“We invite you to stand with us; and partake in a simple, peaceful act of tying ribbons between the two trees in the market square.”
