ABC to Read believes life is better when everyone can read and express themselves confidently.
They are waiting to place volunteers in schools that are requesting our support, but they need more volunteers to come forward to help with this vital service.
ABC to Read provides both initial and ongoing training for its volunteers to ensure that they are giving the best possible support to children’s reading in schools.
Volunteers would be working within a local school, ideally twice a week for one-and-a-half hours in the afternoons but once a week will be considered. The role is extremely rewarding, learning new skills and strengthens the community.
Could this be you?
Blue Cross provides help for pet owners when they cannot afford vet bills, rescue and rehome pets, counselling for pet bereavement and educating children about looking after their pets.
Their shop in Wokingham provides vital fundraising for the charity. It is important for them that volunteers enjoyed their time within the shop.
Currently, till and shop floor cover is required for the mornings on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The role involves helping serve customers and helping maintain the shop floor.
More activities/duties are available as the volunteers learn more within the shop.
Volunteers must be friendly and approachable and able to give a good level of customer service.
Me2 Club enables children and young people with additional needs and disabilities, aged 5-19, in the Wokingham Borough, to attend mainstream activity clubs.
The charity does this by recruiting, training volunteers to provide one-to-one (two-to-one when required) support to the young people at an activity of their choice, from uniformed groups such as Cubs and Brownies, to gymnastics, youth groups or swimming.
The support our volunteers offer can range from just being there to ease social anxieties, to working closely with the family and activity leaders to support challenging behaviours.
Activities are once a week for approximately one to two hours during term time.
Volunteers need to commit for a minimum of one year to ensure continuity for the child they are matched with.
Volunteering with Me2 Club is a great way to enhance your CV or university application, particularly for anyone looking for a career working with children, in social care, medicine or nursing.
It’s also a great way to give back to your local community and give young people with additional needs the same opportunities that everyone should have.
Anyone over the age of 16 can apply to volunteer and they provide a comprehensive eight-hour training course prior to starting the role.
All volunteers are subject to a DBS check and references.
