The Sporting Memories Foundation is the World’s first charity dedicated to Sports Reminiscence & Physical Activities.
They support older people living in England and Wales with dementia, depression and loneliness by engaging them in social activities and helping them to recall memories of watching or playing sport.
By sharing memories of sporting moments and tapping into a passion for sport we help people to connect with others and with their past, reawakening positive thoughts and feelings that otherwise remain hidden away.
Using images of sport and memorabilia, older people are assisted to stay connected to their friends and communities, cognitively stimulated and physically active. Sporting Memories groups help people over the age of 50 age well and remain as healthy as possible.
The group meets on Wednesday afternoons from 12.30pm-3pm at the Berkshire County Sports & Social Club in Sonning.
The first hour of the session begins with reminiscing activities quizzes, discussions and group interaction.
The second hour includes physical/sporting activities based around the theme for the day. As a volunteer, you will support the facilitator and participants in the activities.
An interest in sport and helping older people is desirable.
