I have been a Wokingham Borough Councillor for Twyford since 2012.
A retired BT manager, my commitment to our village is strong and long-lasting.
Before I became a Borough Councillor, I served as a Piggott School governor and a Twyford Parish Councillor.
I am a member of the executive of Twyford Together and the Council’s representative on Age Concern Twyford.
I have a reputation as a tireless fighter for Twyford and its residents.
Caroline Hill, Labour
Caroline Hill is standing to be a strong voice for Twyford’s residents on Wokingham Borough Council. Through her work as an assistant headteacher at a primary school, she recognises how political decisions at a local level can make a huge difference to the lives of children and young people.
Working throughout this pandemic in the centre of the community really drove home for Caroline the importance of local services in providing support, such as food parcels and social care, and giving a sense of safety and security to young and old alike.
“It is heartbreaking to see mental health services being pushed to breaking point by lack of funding from this Conservative government, just when we need them the most”, says Caroline.
Wokingham Borough Council needs a strong Labour voice to stand up to the Tories.
Caroline believes we can do better than Wokingham Borough Council’s current attempt at tackling the climate emergency, by implementing Wokingham Labour’s Green Vision. Labour will hold a Citizens’ Assembly on the Climate Emergency and take these views straight to the council. Labour will also prioritise new affordable council housing; community homes that will allow people to stay close to family in the borough, not forced out of living locally due to sky-high private rent.
Caroline would love to hear from residents. When not working, she volunteers as a youth leader and loves cooking and DIY projects. She lives in Broad Hinton and has spent lockdown exploring all of Twyford’s footpaths.
Martin Coule, Green
Martin has lived in Twyford for three years but has had connections with Wokingham for more than 20 years.
He works in computers, currently in the telecommunications sector. He has an allotment in London Road and an interest in all the sciences, but especially astronomy.
If elected, he will work for better local cycling facilities and public transport, as well as opposing inappropriate development and tree felling.
He wants Wokingham to commit to a zero-carbon strategy as soon as possible.
