HUNDREDS of walkers enjoyed the spring sunshine on Sunday, May 7, for the third Wokingham Walk.
The annual event invites participants to explore some of the borough’s most beautiful countryside through five-, 10- or 15-mile walks.
They are encouraged to seek sponsorship for their favourite charities and entrants also raised funds for the Borough Mayor’s charity, Bracknell, Wokingham and Districts Mencap.
Lions member Andy Slay, who helped put the walk together, said he was really pleased with the increased turn-out this year.
He said: “We had a 30 per cent increase in walkers this year, and the new interim 10-mile walk proved to be very popular. Five miles is still good for anyone who hasn’t walked long distances before, but we had a number of people last year who said they wanted to challenge their children, and felt that the 15-mile route was slightly too long for them.
“We intend the Wokingham Walk to become a major part of the town’s annual calendar, and we are looking forward to see it grow and develop next year.”
