ONE of the borough’s most famous residents has been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour.
The family of Paul Daniels announced the news via a post on his website.
Mr Daniels, 77, lives in Wargrave with his wife, Debbie McGee. He is famous worldwide for his conjuring skills and has wowed millions throughout the 80s and 90s with his BBC magic show.
The pair have kept on performing and had been due to perform at The Mill at Sonning in April.
The statement made clear the couple’s wish for privacy.
It reads: “We can confirm that one of our greatest magicians and entertainers of all times, Paul Daniels, has sadly been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour.
“On behalf of Paul, Debbie and their families, we thank you for your kind concerns and support at this sad time and ask that their privacy continues to be respected.
“There will be no further comments at this time.”
As well as being an established stage performer, Mr Daniels is also one of the country’s leading authorities in magic, writing several books on the subject and also teaching students in his own home.
His wife, Debbie McGee, is his on-stage assistant and also a performer in her own right. She also hosts a regular Sunday morning show on BBC Radio Berkshire and has appeared in pantomime at The Hexagon.
He has also been a great supporter of local initiatives, appearing at the Wargrave festival, opening fetes and presenting awards.
