Doug Sheppard says Bracknell Bees must be more disciplined after his side fell to two defeats at the weekend.
Bees led 4-2 heading into the final stanza against Streatham at the Hive on Saturday, but ended up drawing 5-5 before losing on penalties. Roman Malinik (2), Aidan Doughty, Josh Martin and Ben Paynter were all on target for Bracknell and Smith hit the post with the final penalty stroke.
And another loss followed on Sunday as Bracknell battled back from 2-0 down to level thanks to Edward Knaggs and Shaun Thompson strikes at Peterborough Phantoms, only to fall to a 4-2 defeat.
“This weekend showed that there’s a fine line between a four point weekend and a one point weekend,” said Sheppard.
“We played a solid 45 minutes on Saturday and then decided to shoot ourselves in the foot.
“We took some selfish penalties and it cost us, it’s that simple.
“We knew Sunday was going to be tough, but it could have been different if we’d taken momentum from Saturday in with us.”
He added: “If we’re to be successful we need better goaltending and we need to be more disciplined at times.
“When we play as a team from the goaltender outwards I think we can compete with anyone, but at the minute we’re lacking consistency in both areas.”
Despite the defeats Bracknell remain top of the table, but have played more games than the chasing pack. They go to Raiders on Saturday (5.15pm) before welcoming Milton Keynes Thunder to The Hive on Sunday (6pm).
