A MAN who refused to do press-ups in the street has his jaw broken in a vicious street assault.
And Thames Police Police said this evening that they arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of GBH, and released him under investigation.
The alleged assault took place during morning rush hour on Friday, February 8, just outside FS Car Valeting on Reading Road. The car wash is by the Winnersh Crossroads and opposite the Sainsbury’s supermarket on King Street Lane.
In a statement, Thames Valley Police said that the victim, a 27-year-old man was walking along Reading Road around 8.15am last Friday.
The attacker approached him and ordered him to drop down to the pavement and do 20 press-ups.
The victim declined and was then attacked. He ran towards two members of the public who were in a blue pick-up truck and told them what had happened.
As a result of his injuries, the victim was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where he remains.
In a statement, designated investigator Allison Dixon, of Thames Valley Police CID based at Reading, said: “This unprovoked assault has left the victim with a broken jaw which will require surgery.
“I am appealing to anybody who witnessed the incident to make contact with police.
“I am also directly appealing to the two male witnesses who the victim spoke to get in touch as they may have vital information to assist with our investigation.
“I am also appealing to another man who was in the area who may have witnessed the assault to make contact with us.
“This witness is described as a white man with a large build and was wearing a long black hooded raincoat.”
