A MAN from Wokingham rubbed shoulders with the stars on Friday, after winning a BBC Radio 2 quiz.
Ross Rotheram joined Zoe Ball on her breakfast show and met Alexander Armstrong, Amanda Holden, Level 42’s Nathan King, Mike Lindup and Mark King.
It was his prize for winning The 5 Star Big Quiz on yesterday’s show.
He was given 60 seconds to respond to showbiz related questions. With five correct answers, he was able to get a golden ticket to the radio show, which is one of the most-listened to in the country.
Ross took his wife Naj along for the experience and thoroughly enjoyed himself.
He said: “We’re regular listeners to the show, but I entered on the spur of the moment. I never expected to win, so when I got the call back, I was gobsmacked.”
And Naj said that the (five) stars had aligned to ensure Ross’ success on the airwaves.
“By his own admission, Ross is rubbish at remembering names, so the fact he got the questions right was amazing.”
Ross admitted that he was nervous during the quiz, but he managed to get his answers out. “I’m amazed we got them all,” he said.
The prize – being in the Broadcasting House studios with the stars – could have been intimidating, but the Rotherams couldn’t have been more at ease.
“It was an awesome line and it was great to be in the studio,” said Ross who was particularly pleased to meet Zoe Ball, as he is a Strictly fan.
“From the minute we got there, everyone was so lovely. They were really kind, and it didn’t feel like we are in a room with superstars, they were really inclusive,” Naj said.
Although they had opportunities to mingle with the celebrities, they couldn’t get any hints from Amanda Holden over who they should back on Britain’s Got Talent, nor will they be fast-tracked onto Alexander Armstrong’s Pointless any time soon, but they did get to ask him a question live on air.
“It was great to be there,” Ross said.
