STAR bakers and cake showstoppers were the theme for this year’s Red Nose Day at one Wokingham secondary school.
Pupils at St Crispin’s School, in London Road, took part in a Comic Relief Bake Off last Friday (24) to raise more than £1,300 for charity as well as raising a few laughs.
The 36 entries were divided into three categories: the Technical Challenge, a Signature Challenge and a Showstopper Challenge, with the latter proving to be the most popular with the creative bakers.
Mo Abiodun took home the prize for her clever tower of biscuits in the Signature Challenge; Charlotte Gulliford and Ellie Waters took home the Technical Challenge accolade for their perfectly formed Millionaire’s Shortbread; and Charlotte Addy took home the Showstopper gold for her colourful, three-tiered creation.
The entries were judged by a panel of teachers, who had the enviable task of sampling every cake and commenting on the overall appearance as well as the taste.
Organiser Natalie Rouse, who teaches PE and Psychology, said: “I’ve been so pleased with the number of entries this year, and the level of creativity of some of them has been incredible.
“I’ve awarded star bakers to some of the entries who, even though didn’t win their category, showed a certain level of skill.
“The Bake Off raised £397.55, and the children had a mufti day and a Guess the Teacher competition which raised £925.38.”
