WOKINGHAM Conservatives welcomed a special guest for the first meeting of the year for their lunch club.
Jacob Rees-Mogg, who was recently spotted handed over a petition to Number 10 Downing Street urging the Government to axe foreign aid, came to the borough to speak at the club on Friday, February 9.
His appearance saw a bumper crowd visit Sindlesham Court’s Masonic centre for the meal: 191 guests attended.
The group’s chairman, Barbara Houghton, said: “He delivered a clear and concise account of his views on Brexit following a delicious lunch.
“He mingled with attendees both before and during the lunch proving himself to be both charming and approachable and submitting cheerfully to endless photos with guests.
“Happy to answer questions after his speech he responded to all in a positive and measured fashion, proving himself to be an excellent ambassador for the Conservative party.
“The vote of thanks was given by Wokingham’s own MP, John Redwood.”
